Nicole Gingras is a researcher, author and curator based in Montreal. Her interest in images and sound has resulted in exhibitions, programs and publications, including the anthology and CD entitled S: ON – Le son dans l’art contemporain canadien (Montreal: Éditions Artextes, 2003); Regarder, observer, surveiller (2004) focusing on surveillance, observation and perception; Tracer, Retracer / Tracking the Traces (2005-2006) on the links between sound, silence and traces; as well as the series of exhibitions Listening to See (2008-2009). She is also a founding member of the MINUTE curators’ collective, whose production and dissemination activities, including Frictions (2009), a large-scale program curated for Club Transmediale in Berlin, have extended throughout Quebec and the rest of the world since 2002.

Her most recent projects include the curatorship of Trafic ART 2010, a biennial in Saguenay (Quebec), Raymond Gervais 3 x 1 (2011-2012), a major two-part exhibition and publication devoted to this pioneer of Canadian conceptual art, as well as Machines – The Shapes of Movement, a series of 14 exhibitions for the Manif d’art 6 (2012) biennale in Quebec City. She has been recently named the new director of La Biennale de Montréal, whose next edition is scheduled for October 2013.
